Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows is the name of a family of operating systems developed by Microsoft since 1981, when the project was called "Interface Manager". Microsoft Windows is a range of operating systems produced by Microsoft, primarily for computers compatible PC. It is the successor to MS-DOS. Since the 1990s , including the release of Windows 95 , he met an undeniable success, partly due to the fact that his publisher has spent numerous exclusive agreements with computer manufacturers forbidding them to install another system on pain of financial penalties . The Windows family is composed of several branches. The first branch, said branch 16-bit , Windows covers a to 3.11 (3.2 in Chinese). It appeared in 1985 and worked only on compatible PC, 16-bit mode. The second branch, said branch Windows NT (Windows NT 3.1, NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 ), appeared in 1993 . It is a development from scratch, designed for personal computers, servers and computers that are not compatible PC. It was first used in business. With Windows XP , released in 2001 , which continues the branch Windows NT this branch is also now public, and continues with Windows Vista and Windows 7 . The third branch, branch sometimes called Windows 9x, appeared in 1995 and existed in parallel with the NT branch. This branch started with Windows 95, followed by Windows 98 and Windows Me. She was known to the public and was intended to replace the first branch. This is the first public branch 32 bits. The fourth branch, said branch Windows CE, which appeared in 1996 with Windows CE 1.0. It is designed for embedded systems hardware and lightweight and portable (PDA, mobile phone). This is the basis of Windows Mobile and Pocket PC (POGUE, 2010).

Mac OS

Mac OS stands for Macintosh Operating System, a family of proprietary operating systems with graphical user interface. Along with Mac OS X the second most popular operating system in the world (with a total market share in May 2011 was 5.4%). Mac OS was first introduced in 1984 along with the original Macintosh 128K. Early versions of Mac OS were compatible only with Macs based on processors, Motorola 68K; the following versions are compatible with the architecture of PowerPC (PPC). Recently, Mac OS X was compatible with the architecture of Intel x86 (REYNOLDS, 2006). But Apple's policy is that it allows establishing a system of Mac OS only on Apple computers. Mac OS X has officially certified as a UNIX-system. Since Mac OS X and Mac OS 9, considerably differ from each other, the program for Mac OS 9 running on Mac OS X in emulation mode. To run the Mac OS 9 applications in Mac OS X virtual machine was created, called the “Classic” (POGUE, 2002).
