Communication Skills Are Essential To the Role of the Healthcare Professional

Communication is the process by which to transmit information from one entity to another. Communication processes are sign-mediated interactions between at least two agents that share a common repertoire of signs and rules are semiotic common. Communicative competence and psychological radiographer includes components such as knowledge and understanding of the psychological characteristics of the patient, himself a doctor, communication processes arising from the interaction of radiographer, patient and his relatives, psychology, medical environment, the acquisition of clinical skills, the ethical and professional issues, psychological issues prevention and therapy of diseases foundations, health promotion, rehabilitation, and capacity for knowledge, personal growth and professional development throughout their lives (Henry, 2000, Pp. 78-115). Required knowledge of psychological, behavioral and communication skills allow medical professionals to communicate effectively with clients to make informed and responsible clinical decisions, basing medical practice on the principles of psychological and communicative competence.

The communication barriers often create so much difficulty in understanding the issues and needs of the patient. There are three types of categories, which are presented as barriers to effective communication:

Environment: These are around us, are impersonal, and have a negative effect on communication, can be physical discomfort (heat in the room, an uncomfortable chair, etc.)For example: If the patient is feeling uncomfortable and is not able to communicate properly, therefore, healthcare professional needs to understand enough to understand the body language of the patient and act accordingly.

Verbal: These are the speech that stands in the communication, as an example: people who talk too fast, or do not explain things well. For example: a healthcare professional is in habit of talking too loudly, slowly or fastly that a patient in front of him could not understand the actual thing.

Interpersonal: The case of two people who have negative effect on the mutual communication. These common interpersonal barriers are the incorrect assumptions, and different perceptions.

However, professional communication in healthcare is the collaborative effort of over 40 professionals working in the health community in Europe; most of the authors have pooled their knowledge in health communication and to offer complete understanding of the importance of such skills in the field of health care. Communication is the main tool of the health worker. Indeed, the interpersonal relationship plays a crucial role in every moment of the clinical encounter. A doctor, for example, may be between 160,000 and 200,000 consultations in his career, and each has requested his communication skills (Hodge, 2001, Pp. 368-485).
