Color Reaction Time

Abstract

The reaction time is the time between the presentation of a stimulus and the response given by the subject. The aim of this study was to compare the reaction times in the visual sensory modalities, auditory and tactile to see if there were significant differences, with the collaboration were 60 males and female subjects between 20 and 25 years who were asked to respond to stimuli produced and measured by a chronometer chronoscope. Using the Friedman statistical test shows that there are statistical differences between the three modes significance levels, being the sensory modality which has less reaction time and the tactile modality having one more.

Introduction

The psychology is the science that studies the behavior of individuals and their mental processes and their inward part, both conscious and unconscious. This study concerns the internal dynamics of ' individual, the relationships between the latter environment, the behavior and human mental processes that exist between sensory stimuli and responses. Currently psychology is a discipline composite, whose methods of research ranging from the strictly experimental (laboratory or field) to the most ethnographically oriented (for example, some approaches of cultural psychology), from a strictly individual (for example: studies of psychophysics , psychotherapy individual, etc.), methods with greater attention to the social and group (for example: the study of the psychological dynamics in organizations, the psychology of work that employs the so-called "focus groups", etc. ). This diversity of approaches has produced an articulation of psychological sub disciplines, with different matrix epistemological and cultural reference.

The reaction time is the shortest delay between a simple answer presenting characters on a voluntary response usually initial incitement almost always takes the form of a stimulus, both being determined and set by the operator and without any some natural relations between them (Woodworth, 2010).

The reaction time is given by two aspects: The first is the transit time of the stimulus in the organs corresponding susceptible. The second has to do with time passing between nerve impulses and muscle movement. Therefore, briefly review the anatomy of eye, ear and the sensory system and the characteristics of the stimulation and transduction form the cerebral cortex.

Below is a brief historical background exposed and also some of the devices used to produce and implement sensory stimulation. Discuss some important aspects with regard to the measurement technique and how the variability of the results can be affected.

As a first aspect this paper stimulus intensity sensory modality is another important aspect, Tucker, 2003said auditory reaction times are shorter, followed by visual and lastly tactile or longer reaction times. A third important are the physiological factors of the reaction times of the peripheral to the central level.

A fourth factor is the psychological factors and / or cognitive. A fifth aspect is the personal factors. Organic factors such as fatigue, changes during the day, and the action of external conditions, coffee and snuff are also variables that significantly influence the reaction ...
