The education plays a very crucial role in developing a nation. Therefore, good education is important at all levels from nursery to college and universities. It helps to develop a student into a person who will become a responsible citizen of the county. In order to do so, the students should be guided and assisted at all levels of education. The problems that they face should be resolved by the teachers and instructors to ensure proper learning. It can only be achieved when the teachers use proper theories to help the students. One such theory is the cognitive theory, which has large application base in the real life. By using these theories, the teachers can help their students to become responsible of their actions regarding the educational outcome. The students if provided proper assistance and guidance will achieve better results in terms of their academics. The application of the theory in education is most important in the middle school students as they go through a number of changes in this adolescents' age.

In order to understand the cognitive theory of learning, it is important to have knowledge of what cognitive is. It is the process of acquiring and understanding knowledge, forming attitudes and beliefs, problem solving and decision making (www.businessdictionary.com). Cognition is the process of knowing. It includes thinking, imagining, reasoning, judgment, perception and speech.

General Assumptions of Cognitive Theories

There are some learning processes that may be unique and different humans. The learning process involves forming the mental representation that might not be shown in the behavior of human beings. Human beings are involved in the process of learning actively. The knowledge that the humans gain is organized. Learning is assumed to be a process of linking and relating new information that has been received with the already learned information. The observation of people's behavior should by the focal point of scientific inquiry and the inferencing regarding the mental process of can also be withdrawn from this process (Ormrod, 2008).
