Background

The Coca Cola Company is one of the world's largest beverage company, operating in more than 200 countries worldwide and having a portfolio of 3500+ beverages. With its headquarters in Georgia, Atlanta, Coca Cola focuses on not only understanding the needs of its target audience but also catering to it in the most optimum manner by constantly reviving its strategies and tactics and striving to refresh the world. (The Coca Cola Company 2011). The drink gets its name from the fact that in its recipe is used, among other substances, extracted from the kola nut and plant extracts from the leaves of coca , the latter deprived of substances ( alkaloids ) psychotropic. With the same name is often referred to the manufacturer of the drink, Coca-Cola Company. The "Coca-Cola" was invented by American pharmacist John Stith Pemberton 's May 8 1886 in Atlanta , initially as a remedy for a headache. The first name that was given to the drink was "Pemberton's French Wine Coca." Pemberton was a change to the so-called "coca wine" (or Vin Mariani), a mixture of wine and leaves of coca , which had great success in Europe when it was created by pharmacist Corsican Angelo Mariani . Alcohol was later replaced an excerpt of the nuts of cola , a tropical plant is considered not harmful to health.

An example of the rapid changes in the media consumption would be the teenagers today who now prefer playing video games as opposed to watching plain old fashioned television. Thus in order to reach such consumers, companies would have to come up with newer, intelligent ways to cater to them. (Bean, 2001). All of this has given rise to social media marketing.
