ABSTRACT

It is argued that child protection social workers sometimes fail to consider it relevant to engage with children in their daily practices despite it being a part of their professional obligation to include the views and opinions of children they are working with. There is always an intense public quest for change and scrutiny of social services when a child accidentally dies while in the care of his/her parents or is killed by parents or carers. Therefore, in order to study is major concern in the current era; this dissertation aims at exploring the reasons and factors for apparent failure of child protection social workers in protecting children. As a myriad objective, the study will explore the importance of the child in child protection policies and how social work practices have developed in ways that easily marginalizes the child. The study is also aimed to find out whether current reviews of child protection have identified essential child protection policies that needs reforming and to explain gaps in the reviews in order to contribute to ensuring an improvement in child protection policies. For the study, secondary method of research was adopted and a bulk of pertinent literature was accumulated to obtain beneficial results and conclusions.
