Impact of Families on Development of Infants and Young Children

The family is the basic unit of all societies. The force that influences family life is the fast pace and nature of social change. The development involves an adjustment within the family, the roles and responsibilities. Children are the first to benefit or suffer from these changes. Families play a prominent role in the development of children. The initial period of their life is very crucial as children learn during this time and family in which the child is developed has a huge impact on the child life. There are numerous obstacles, which can sway, development of child and parents should make sure that the children should treated just as it can affect their life a lot. These are also risk components involved which are split up into biological risk and ecological risk which can affect the child development. Families should keep a check on their children as what activities they are involved in (Whalley, 2001). The behavior of parents towards their children should always be pleasant as children become depressed when they are not treated well. Their development can be affected be mentally as disability, mental retardation, and multiple handicaps can result in it.

Families should involve children in discussing their issues with them. Children should feel comfortable with their family, and they should feel comfortable in discussing their problems with them. There are numerous concepts about how to bring up children. Some parents take up the concepts their own parents used. Others get recommendations from friends. Some read publications about parenting. Others take categories suggested in the community. No one has all the answers. However, psychologists and other communal researchers now understand what parenting practices are most productive and are more probable to lead to affirmative conclusions for children.
