First and foremost, it is important to understand that children have to grow and develop in many different areas in order to become healthy, happy, productive members of adult society. There are four main areas or channels in which children grow physical, psychosocial, social and cognitive. This paper presents the review of two articles regarding child and adolescent development.

The first article that is selected for this paper is titled as “Using Child Development Research to Make Appropriate Custody and Access Decisions for Young Children”. The article was published in Family and Conciliation Courts Review, Sage Publication. Review of Article
The articles mention the Criteria for child and adolescent development. While mentioning the criteria the articles imply that Piaget theorized that as children interact with their physical and social environments, they organize information into groups of interrelated ideas called 'schemes'. When children encounter something new, they must either assimilate it into an existing scheme or create an entirely new scheme to deal with it. It must be noted that Piaget showed physical and social environment as an important criteria for the development of the children (Brownlee, 2000).
Different physiological, cognitive, psychological and biological developments are supposed to occur in a child from the age of 11 to 14. If these changes take place on appropriate time without any abnormalities then these developments are referred to as normal development of an adolescent. If these developments take place with certain disturbance then this is referred to as the abnormal development of the adolescent.
