Executive summary

This report deals with the issue of change management which is being faced by the mangers of the D2 Company. The managers of D2 Company are trying to implement the change due to decrease in demand in their components. Similarly, they are also facing an issue in their plant at UK which has outdated technology. The need for change at the D2 has arisen due to the external environmental pressures like economic recession. Furthermore, it has given a good opportunity to the change agents of the company to implement the change successfully in order to make the company profitable, flourish and survive in the new competitive environment. Both the economic downturn and the out-dated technology at the UK plant have increased the need For the D2 to implement organizational change. It has also been found that due to this change some of the staff might shift to the France. As it is decided by the company to expand the plant at France as it has advance technology and latest processes.

The decision will also result in massive redundancies at the UK plant. In this entire scenario the major problem is how to address this massive change in an effective way and how to manage the resistance to change. In this report we would try to guide the D2 managers to tackle this organizational change in effective manner. We would take guidance from Appreciate Inquiry 5D Framework and some other theories dealing with the organizational development and the organizational change. The report identifies that the change that has taken place at the D2 should be transformational. The leader implementing the change in the organization should possess transformational style. This type of leadership style will help almost everybody in the organization to overcome resistance to change.

Similarly, cooperating and helping each other for the change. It is also the role of the leader here to motivate and encourage the employees to accept the change. One of the biggest tasks for the managers D2 would be to overcome the fear of employees in an effective way. They should endeavor to manage the fear of the unknown, like it has been found that due to this change the employees at the D2 might have the fear of losing their jobs. In order to overcome these problems, the mangers may take help from a number of organizational development techniques, for instance, sensitivity training. We also present two main recommendations to resolve this issue. Out of the two recommendations one is for those who are less likely to continue and one is for those who are likely to move to the new plant in France. The company may address very tactfully to those who are likely to fired, by defining that there are not much opportunities present.
