Executive Summary

Change management is strategically important factor in the sustainability and profitability of a business in the future. This assignment focuses on the business school that is facing challenges emerging from the inefficiencies inherent in its structure, culture and operational system. It proposes a suitable management change alternative after an external, internal analysis of the business environment and further evaluating the different alternatives available to the school. The analysis concludes that a structural management change provides the most immediate results.

External Analysis

Information technology has had a huge impact on the traditional ways of imparting education (Russell Group 2010, p41). Universities are offering their courses by using online websites and manage the course requirements by using blackboard services. This has put a lot of pressure on the traditional schools and universities because of the new form of competition that rose from information technology (UCME 2012). Since these online universities provide education on flexible terms and with less than usual fees, a lot of students are enrolling in these universities due to recession (Exhibit 1).

Internal Analysis

The business school has been going through tough times due to the lack of motivation and commitment from the founding fathers. The recruitment process is not based on nepotism and favoritism, which impacts the brand of the school in a negative way. There is a dearth of communication between the management and the faculty. Furthermore, the business school has not been able to attract new students (Exhibit 2).

Problem Statement

The business school needs to identify and rectify the factors that are contributing to the decline in its performance in terms of new students enrolled.

Criteria for Evaluation

The evaluation for the various alternatives would be based on the time and effort that is required in order to execute the change. The resourcefulness of the business school would also be considered as the business school cannot afford to exhaust all of its business resources.

Culture

The business school has developed a culture which does not inspire creativity and openness. There are clear differences between the management and the teachers. This calls for some serious cultural changes as there is a drought of communication and collaboration between the major stakeholders in the school. It is the result of this lack of communication which results in goals not been clearly defined and rumors regarding the future of the school.

Evaluation

Changing the culture of the organization will deliver the required results as it would motivate all the stakeholders regarding the future of the school. This would also give a message to all the stakeholders that the management is interested in the school and is looking forward to its future (Exhibit 3).

Structure
