Prescriptive theory emphasizes the good leadership as a process calculated from the leader to influence followers to achieve the honor improving social groups. Leadership in democratic societies must be "servant leadership", defined as a service on behalf of others. Or the success of social organization requires that managers with effective leadership and strong moral values, and wide dissemination of such skills and values in the sense of "empowerment" of followers. A successful leader will enhance the welfare of the group, a successful leader is not. Measuring success is the legitimacy of the goals and defining a time horizon during which makes success. A competent leader is effective to influence followers. Ethical leadership means that individuals of high moral standards can pursue ethically desirable goals by ethically acceptable means. Unethical leadership involves a leader immoral or amoral, acting on purely personal benefit, regardless of the consequences for others.

An amoral man has no morals, no sense of right and wrong. An amoral leader only calculates yields and personal risks. An immoral person with low moral or corrupt behavior, an ethical leader can be effective in influence as a moral leader. An effective leader can be successful or not depends on circumstances beyond their control.
