Introduction

In any company or organization, recruitment of employees is perhaps one of the constantly practiced exercises. However, what is important to note is that recruitment is not just hiring the new employees. In fact, there are a number of activities that follow that may include orientations, training sessions, and official introduction sessions of the employees. Hence, an efficient management will make sure all these post recruitment activities are well planned and well organized. Moreover, individuals with prior experience of executing such tasks should perform them (Erling, 2010).

Background

Amongst many of the post-hiring formalities, one of the most observed is the arrangement of an Orientation (Bowdin, 2006). With this are associated all the documentation of the trainees including their resumes, applications, various medical tests and other personal information. Carl Robins, the new recruiter at ABC, Inc. has apparently failed to do so. His lack of experience at his job is reflected in his effort for the arrangement of post-hiring formalities. He came to know that there have been some major setbacks that will make it almost impossible for the orientation ceremony to take place. Moreover, he realizes that the resulting events are the consequences of his careless attitude and casual approach towards the preparations of the ceremony. Carl therefore has very little time to solve the problem and save his reputation from being ruined very early in his time at ABC, Inc.

Key Problems

The applications of some of the new trainees are incomplete. In addition, the transcripts of these are also not organized properly.

The drug test of these new trainees, that is a mandatory medical test, is still pending.

For the orientation ceremony, there are only three orientation manuals available to be provided to the trainees. In addition, even the three available manuals have several pages missing.

The room Carl reserved for the orientation of the new trainees was no longer available. In fact, it was reserved for the entire month of June for the installation of database software. Hence, apparently Carl has also failed to arrange a room for the ceremony to take place.

Because of his assurance to Monica Carrolls, the operations supervisor, Carl cannot ask her for assistance. Hence, Carl is on his own.

Alternatives

The first most obvious alternative for Carl is to inform Monica Carrolls of all the problems that he faces including the lack of availability of the manuals, unorganized and incomplete personnel documents and medical reports of the new employees. Carl can admit his mistakes and ask Monica to take a decision of whether she wishes to assist Carl or take away from him the responsibility of the task entirely. This may sound like the most convenient option. However, this option will have a number of consequences. It's been only six months of Carl's time at the organization and this is his first ...
