Case # 01

Solution

Burns are among the nastiest types of wounds to manage. They can differ from exceptionally minor (which mend without any medicine) to critically extreme (that without advanced interventions will bring about the suffering and death of the patient who is burned). The burn of our patient lies under the second degree (partial thickness burn). It involves two layers of skin that is Dermis and epidermis. They are brought on via flash or flame, hot solid objects, sun or the chemicals (Cuttle & Kimble, 2010). The skin seems to be cherry red, uneven colored (mottled) and moist, and will have characterizing feature of second degree of burn, that is blisters. As our patient is having blisters that are why we place him under this category. Blisters appear as a result of damage to the vessels of blood that causes interstitial fluid as well as plasma to rise to the skin surface, making bubbles under the superficial layer of skin; epidermis.

Second reason of categorizing our patient under this category is the complaint of severe pain. This burn type is severely painful, due to the fact that nerve endings get damaged but not destroyed. This kind of burn heals itself within two to four weeks until it covers more than thirty percent of the body. The area of burn is also important for the determination of its severity and the chances of the harm it can cause to the body. Our patient is severely burnt because face burns are considered as severe as it can enhance the probability of respiratory compromise. Hand burns are considered as critical due to the fact that it can cause the functional loss for the patient (Cuttle & Kimble, 2010).
