This document provides a way to see practices of power in negotiation interaction. Sent a theoretical framework and method of analysis that allows these practices to be identified and located in the speech, and capture its effects on the process and outcome of the negotiation. Overall, theory and method of providing a kind of microscope that allows practices to be located and delineated.

Overview

The notion of a microscope was introduced that "analysis of power in the interaction requires, in fact, a microscope, because she found that to locate and investigate the power struggles and how they are built and sustained and speak by no means a simple matter. The model put forward is based on the research design developed for my doctoral research on the study of power and politeness in trade talks between Malaysian and Japanese businessmen. The aim of my research was to show how power and politeness work enacted through language to talk about negotiations, in particular, how it is exercised and how they affect the process and outcome of the negotiation.

Methodology

The research has the pragmatic as the approach adopted in the analysis of discourse as the main analytical approach, and is supported by the theory of speech acts as a secondary focus. The research is qualitative in design that employs a triangulation of theoretical perspectives and research methods. The concerns of my study were, first, to examine the types of speech acts and discourse strategies used in negotiation, and how the trading strategies from the perspective of power and politeness.

Analytical Framework

As noted above, this framework was generated eclectic variety of sources to meet the objectives of the study. It consists of

1) a tabulated list of speech acts and discourse strategies for negotiation,

2) (2004) Locher checklist for nature and exercise of power

3) (2007) Brown and Levinson's politeness theory,

4) Watts (2001) the notion of network, and

5) of Goffman (2004, 2001) understanding of the structure. Hese theories together, resulting from the comprehensive review of the literature, they function as a lens of a microscope that allows the exercise of power and politeness that is and how it works in the interaction to be investigated.

Speech Acts And Discourse Strategies Negotiating

The negotiation involves reaching an agreement acceptable to stakeholders. As a result, it is, first, to publicize the objectives of each party, preferences, proposals or offers. If necessary, the parties then attempt to bridge the gap between their positions, so that an acceptable compromise or settlement can be achieved. Reducing disparities involves collaboration, the setting, the grant-making and negotiation.
