ABSTRACT

However, the percentage of the world's population actively uses the English language is less to 25 percent. But the importance of this language as a world language is not in the number People who speak in the utility but it is for its users. It is the language in which conduct international business. Due to cultural and language barriers to confronting all corporations, is very important that people doing business transactions may have a common language through which to communicate with their peers in other cultures. A Peruvian businessman is likely to communicate with his Japanese counterpart in English. For Most global markets, the main sources of valuable information resources Financial - Time and Newsweek magazines, CNN and the Wall Street Journal - are in English. The development of an area of knowledge is both political and academic. Applied Linguistics, as well as other areas of knowledge, certainly shows different faces in different countries. These differences are a consequence of several factors including the way segmentation of knowledge is politically decided in universities and in funding bodies. Some areas are born in “a room of their own” and others, and here I include Applied Linguistics, have to conquer a room. The history of Applied Linguistics in Brazil is intermingled with the history of Linguistics. All was seen as part of Linguistics and until today there are traces of this link, as for example, in research funding bodies where all is still presented as a subarea of Linguistics. According to Halliday, in a modern world where the economy has gone from based products and services to be an information economy, language vehicle of such information, in English, is that language has become international.

IMPORTANCE OF ENGLISH

English is considered the "lingua franca" of today: the language in which transactions are conducted economic, political, technological, academic and cultural relations between peoples. Globalization has generated unprecedented internationalization of the language and is revolutionizing as the new Anglo parlances around the world will print their own identity, creating regional variations.
