Task 1) Marketing Letter

Introduction

Marketing a nursery is more than advertising and promotion. Marketing covers other activities, including the development of the nursery, market research and what prices should be charged. This involves identifying your customers and satisfying their needs. To be successful, you must also think about the future, eg is there a new housing development likely to be built nearby? Talk to your local planning officer or regional development agency to find out further information. These are useful for targeting specific areas, eg hospitals, schools, local employers, inserts into local newspapers, schools and doctors' surgeries.

Business is highly seasonal, concentrated in spring and autumn. There is no guarantee that there will be demand for the product - this will be affected by temperature, drought, cheaper foreign competition, fashion, among other things.

Annuals are sold in trays (undivided containers with multiple plants), flats (trays with built-in cells), peat pots, or plastic pots. Perennials and woody plants are sold either in pots, bare-root or balled and burlaped and in a variety of sizes, from liners to mature trees. Brown Bank Nurseries and Garden Center trees are dug either by hand or by a loader that has a tree spade attachment on the front of the machine. Although container grown woody plants are becoming more and more popular due to the versatility, Brown Bank Nurseries and Garden Center is still widely used throughout the industry.

Keeping in mind the needs and significance of the customers, Brown Bank Nurseries and Garden Center is holding a House Plant Week during the last week of February to offer wide range of products at a discount of 15% during the week.

Large selections of herbaceous and bedding plants, bulbs and shrubs and potted plants are offered during the week. Customers can also participate in the prize draw for a collection of three plants of their choices. We also have a water garden section at our outlet for the inhabitants to avail and enjoy the diversified range of facilities.

The flowers may be single, semi-double or fully-double, fading gracefully from deep plummy purple blue, to lilac-blue, with creamy yellow anthers. The plant is happy planted in the ground to scramble over fences, but also ideal for container culture. As an added bonus, Clematis 'Daniel Deronda' also produces the most attractive seed heads of any clematis.
