Organizational Culture and Structure of Ryanair and British Airways

Introduction

This report would investigate the role of organizational culture and structure in shaping organizational effectiveness. The organizational structure and culture have long been known to be essential aspects for successfully creating customer satisfaction and loyalty. Since we would be comparing the practices of two major airlines, we would look to ascertain the role of organizational structure and culture within these airlines.

In order to shape an appropriate progression, we would first give a brief introduction about both the airlines and thus look to accomplish the essence of our report. Since there are different theoretical models and frameworks in both organizational structure and culture, we would look to incorporate the intricacies of the major models in comparison with the nature of operations (Ryanair Holdings PLC, 2012).

The major topics in this report are organizational culture and organizational structure and thus we would look to use the major implications arising out of major models of organizational structure and organizational culture. Both these concepts are highly essential in shaping organizational effectiveness because of a variety of reasons. First of all, organizational culture represents the different values, customs and beliefs of the organization and thus is a huge backbone for running the affairs of organizations in an effective manner.

Cultural diversity is also a major mechanism which strengthens the organizational culture for organizations. The other aspect which would be under discussion namely organizational structure is a major mechanism for assigning the authoritarian roles and responsibilities. A proper framework for successfully delegating authority and having a strong chain of command greatly augments the success of the organization. Thus, we would look to discuss the role of organizational culture and structure within Ryanair and British Airways (British Airways, 2010).

Ryanair is considered to be Europe's only ultra low cost carrier that has been known to operate more than 1600 daily flights. It connects 180 destinations over 29 countries and operates a fleet of 303 new Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Ryanair is credited with providing an exemplary customer service and thus the quality along with low cost greatly attracts more and more customers towards Ryanair.

Ryanair is characterized by a team of more than 9,000 highly skilled professionals that serve the needs of more than 81.5 million passengers. Ryanair successfully strengthens its morals and values in the context of its organizational culture by training and making the employees aware of the alignment of the culture with the values of the organization (RyanAir, 2013).

British Airways is a well renowned and reputed organization. It is a full service international airline that offers characteristically low fares throughout the year with an extensive network that flies form and towards centrally located airports. British Airways prides itself on providing g top quality customer service and aligns that with a low cost factor.
