Analysis
Overview of Gas plant maintenance
The plant maintenance is considered as an activity to ensure the reliability and performance of equipments. The plant maintenance includes installation, repair and restoration of equipments. The maintenance strategies include breakdown, preventive, predictive and proactive maintenance (Jabar, 2003, p.n.d.). The breakdown maintenance strategy is the approach to take actions when the equipment requires. The companies who follow this strategy do not maintain their plants on regular basis and also they do not have any schedule planned for these activities. The strategy is applied to the maintenance of the plant where the failure has been occurred or is about to occur. It is usually applicable for corrective maintenance.
The preventive maintenance strategy requires a planned approach towards taking equipments off, opening and inspecting for repair or maintenance. The components and parts of the equipments are changed as per scheduled and regardless of the condition. It is expensive to apply such strategy as the cost of repair and maintenance is very high (Jabar, 2003, p.n.d.). The predictive maintenance is a condition based approach, in which the plant manager assess the current condition of equipment and determine if actions are required for maintenance or not. The statistical tools are installed with the equipment which provides the result of the plant condition. It is a less expensive approach and many companies follow this. The proactive maintenance strategy is based on identifying the root cause to the failure of equipment (Jabar, 2003, p.n.d.). It is significant for the companies to identify the actual reason behind failure and not just replace the equipment.
