Introduction

The field of human resource development has moved from being a totally traditional field to now becoming an innovative field in the context of professional environment. With the focus of many organizations towards the aspect of core competency, productivity, attainment of high standards of living and the need for organizations to recruit most talented set of employees. In order to accomplish the goal of successfully recruiting most talented set of employees, many organizations are now looking to adopt the contemporary essence of human resource development. Without the implementation of contemporary human resource development, it would be largely impossible for organizations to fulfil their human resource needs (McGuire, 2010).

The field of human resource development is not totally restricted to the human resource requirements but are now increasingly being used to enhance organizational core competency as well as increasing the operational efficiency of organizations. The professional world is transforming to a great extent with the various inadequacies and changing market trends. Many organizations have now incorporated the aspect of contemporary human resource development as a way to diversify their operations. With the emergence of recession and other economic calamities, the field of human resource development has significantly changes its stance. The 4 pertinent factors involved in contemporary human resource development are integrity, quality, flexibility or adaptability and commitment (Leemans, & Duts, 2013).

Discussion

The changing nature of economic conditions has significantly transformed the nature of human resource development as many organizations look to adopt the intricacies of contemporary human resource management. Traditional practices are now being shunned by many organizations in the case of human resource development as they have been largely ineffective in the context of operational efficiency for organizations. The economic conditions and the implications arising out of recession have greatly increased the uncertainty for organizations and thus it is now becoming imperative that they incorporate the essence of contemporary human resource development (Fornes, Rocco, Rosenberg, & Gallagher, 2013).

Another area that has shaped the rapid changes in the context of human resource development have been rising levels of unemployment, exorbitant labour costs, lack of appropriate investment towards improvement of employee's skills and the rising implementation of new and innovative technologies (Yawson, 2013).

A combination of these factors has greatly shaped the transformation of the contemporary human resource development mechanism. Most of the contemporary organizations have failed to great extent in enhancing their core competency through the implementation of traditional human resource practices. As a result, the demand for contemporary human resource development has risen to a great extent (Sambrook, & Willmott, 2013).

We would look to analyze the role of traditional approaches in the context of human resources development and look to ascertain the weaknesses associated with traditional processes of human resource development.
