Introduction

In his novel Brave New World, Aldous Huxley depicts the dystopian vision of a technocratic society. The World State, as it is called, subscribes to the motto of Community, Identity, and Stability. To maintain stability, the World State controls its citizens with the help of the drug Soma, which ensures everybody's happiness. The idea of "families" has been abandoned; instead, human beings are produced like cars on an assembly line.
