Biblical and Theological Context of Christian Education: The Theology of Teaching

Abstract

By giving an overview of most of the secular and also a number of theories regarding teaching in this essay, a tried had been made in order to re-emphasize one of the most basic fact that to coach, teach or instruct the faith of Christianity by any such method which rests upon those concepts of psychology which are humanistic as well as mechanistic, is basically like defeating the core purpose and theology of the Christian education. In its deep context, the Christian education is exactly not only with the matter of procedures and techniques, but on the other hand, it depends a lot on the matter of electing and calling. Neither any Church has any authority to call nor any school has such kind of authority, but only God Himself has the authority to call upon whoever He has chooses to call. The educators and the teachers of Christianity must keep in mind that they should be very careful so as not to adopt or borrow any other foreign secular techniques and methods into the system of Christian education taking into account all hose techniques and methods that had already been borrowed and adopted into the Christian education and whose origin had been derived from the concepts of behavioral sciences, psychology, sociology and anthropology. Here, a very vigilant examination and inspection must be given to all the fields of behavioral sciences. One of the weak points regarding these secular theories is that all these theories operates and functions from humanistic and naturalistic assumptions. These assumptions challenge the word of God, sometimes directly and sometimes in an indirect manner, these assumptions also undermine the human responsibility. In contrast to the neo-orthodox and the liberal approaches, much more focus should be put on the word of God. This paper considers the various aspects of teaching theology in Christianity.

Introduction

To be sufficiently educated is one of the most essential factor for the survival of social group, since the guarantee for the continued existence as well as the development of a community depends largely on the transmission or communication of its accumulated and collective knowledge, the amount of the derived power, and most important to all, the ideological aim that is kept in store for the next generation. In other words, education can also be simply defined as a process or practice of learning and teaching along with the acquisition and imparting of skills and knowledge. This paper discusses the importance of education in Christianity.
