Globalization has changed the face of competition. The multinational culture reinforces the organisations to operate beyond their national boundaries. In order to achieve a competitive edge over the competition, the organisations are striving to develop optimal strategies. Nevertheless, there are several factors that influence the strategic dimension and vision of organisations. In the multinational environment, the needs, wants, culture, heritage, choice and preference of customers have a significant impact on corporate strategies (Gilbert, 2001, 89-94).

In this regard, the organisation needs to guidance from an efficient leader in order to achieve its vision. The organisations adapt innovation in their products and services in order to achieve a competitive edge over their competition. The objective of this paper is to explore barriers to innovation and creativity in an organisation. The core objective of the paper is to highlight the factors that hinder the process of innovation and creativity in an organisation. Moreover, the paper will also discuss the approaches to be adapted by an organisation in order to cope with the barriers (Jain, 2010, 89-102).

Innovation is a change in the method, technology, process, operation or other activities of an organisation in order to extract optimal outcomes. In addition, innovation requires the adequate knowledge of the process improvement in order to declare a process as an obsolete. In this regard, the complacent organisations are more prone to their profits. The organisations that prefer long-term and steady profits maintain their innovation streak; however, the others fall by the wayside after a few star products or services (Gilbert, 2001, 89-94).

Innovation is a continuous process, it does not end. The needs and wants of the customers are volatile, they change with time. According to the product life cycle, every product faces a maturity and then a decline, the only way to keep a product or service alive is innovation. Moreover, the leadership of an organisation also influences the degree of innovation adapted by a company. Hence, these are the core reasons due to which some organisations are more innovative than others, and maintain their legacy in the competitive environment.

There are several factors that can be declared as the barriers to creativity and innovation. These barriers represent one of the crucial concerns encountered by organisation as they hinder their innovation process and creativity capability. Innovation is essential for survival of an organisation in even mature markets. Nonetheless, innovation is one of the key success factors attained by an organisation (Jain, 2010, 89-102).
