Introduction

Sweatshop is extensively factory-oriented place where the workers do the labor work in highly unfavorable conditions. These conditions may appear as entirely unimaginative in the developed (Western) countries. There can be very low wages and exposure to hazardous material even the child labor is the part of this category factory. Abuse is a routine of sweatshops and there may be no measures in the context of providing the workers with needed protection. Usually the factories that produce the products in bulk use this sweatshop as their mean of hiring and retaining employees. This essay aims to explore the working conditions in Bangladesh in the context of Donaldson's type 1 theory and Utilitarianism.

Thesis Statement

“The working conditions in Bangladesh refute the theory of Donaldson's type 1 conflict.”

In Bangladesh, the people are struggling to acquire persistent jobs. The lack of consistency in jobs in the market for everyone and fight inflation. This makes them accept any sort of job with low or no standards. Especially, the role of women is important since they also want jobs in the market. They are even ready to work in the settings of sweatshops. Here, Donaldson's type 1 conflict stance is discussed with respect to the standards that sweatshops offer. In between the discussion, there will be inclusion of the concept of utilitarian.

Body

Donaldson has tried to provide the organizations with check list to start and execute their business. The standards tend to describe the ethics that must be followed by the corporate world. However, the standards vary from country to country. The countries under economic stress are more inclined towards compromising and co-operative working environment as compare to countries with better economic situation.

Donaldson's type 1 conflict has been founded on checking on the availability of needed requirements to make the working environment acceptable for the workers. The economic stress makes the employees accept the low standards that may be unacceptable in normal conditions. The conditions may cause many tradeoffs like low wages, pollution etc. These adversities become tolerable when the aim is something else .i.e. economic development. He believes that companies must pose the questions to themselves who wish to operate in other countries. Will they implement the same standards for the people back in their own countries? Will they distinguish between the standards? The answers to these questions can help them understand the underlying implications within the concept.

Donaldson's idea of creating tolerable working environment does not consider the fact of necessity that implies that a human being wants to meet his needs like breathing, food, water etc fulfilled before ensuring safety implications. This is actually the situation in Bangladesh that the people are living the poverty line. Their needs for food are much larger than their safety and so it is negating the theory of Donaldson.
