Autobiographical Analysis

Overview

In the United States of America, children go to day care centres when they are toddlers, then they go to school and high school and finally college/university. During their school lives, the children spend most of their day at school. At around 4pm, they head home and then partake in activities such as computer gaming or playing baseball or skating with the neighbourhood kids. The country to which I belong, things happen differently or as they say in the USA, 'things roll differently'. In my country, a child goes to Montessori followed by school till the tenth grade. Then comes two years of college (Intermediate) followed by four years of Bachelors and then 1 year of Masters Education. I remember school ending at noon, which was part of a hectic schedule including tuitions, tuitions and more tuitions. The little time I would get in the evening to spend playing with my friends was scarce and well treasured.

Personal reflection

School life

Although I do not remember much of that period, there are some memories that are still crystal clear and unforgettable. When I finished Montessori, my mother decided that I should be enrolled in the best school in the country. By best school, I am sure my mother meant a school which focused strictly on the English language. My parents travelled a lot in their younger days and they knew the importance of being fluent in English. A lot of emphasis was placed on speaking and writing proper English in my house. Before I could even read without the help of an Oxford's dictionary, my parents had already filled my room with The Famous Five and The Secret Seven's novels. Enid Blyton became my favourite novelist.

The school I enrolled in had a strict entrance test that needed to be cleared. My mother was worried and thought I would not be able to make it but surprisingly, I cleared the test with flying colours. The next step for me was to not get expelled. This worried my mother more than the entrance test. As a child, I was quite mischievous and trouble seemed to find me in the most unexpected situations. The school strictly did not tolerate any nonsense. To be honest, I did little to control the mischief in me. I spent my entire school life getting into trouble, getting others into trouble and as they say, 'giving hell' to my teachers and professors. If you (like everyone else) are wondering why I did not get expelled, it is because of my grades. I never had a problem grasping what was being taught in class and this meant my grades were always the top in class. Consider me as Harry Potter causing mayhem in Hogwarts.

When I was in the fourth grade, I fell seriously sick during examination time. As usual, my mother's worry-mode sprang into action. According to her, failing in school and repeating a grade is the worst thing that can happen to a child. Once again, my awesome grades helped ...
