1. Definition of family

A family is the combination of married couple and their children or relatives. Mostly, they have separate living settlement and society and law accept them (Giddens eg al, 2012). It is the primary institution where children are socialized about the norms and values of society. They have blood relation which give each member the sense of responsibility, care, love and entertainment for each other.

2.  Contrast and compare of three videos in terms of different types of families

Home Improvement--Traditional family

In this video, a traditional family is shown. It consists of a father, mother and three children. Each member has assigned tasks e.g. mother is responsible for households. They are called traditional because they have adherent to old values and norms. Their dressing shows they have gender typicality. It means males and females have distinguishable dressing and role. Their free interaction gives them good performance in their roles, confidence and overall development.

Non-Traditional Families

Non-traditional family is one which is may compose of single parent, partners but not married, same sex or divorced.

In this video the families of Gary, Jennifer and Jen & Susie are shown. They are called non-traditional families because their composition and relations are different from the majority of American families (Meadows eg al, 2009). These families at least lack one important member of family. Gary is living with his two daughters and performs the role of father and mother which is non-traditional. Jennifer got son without marry which is non-traditional. In the same way, the family of Jen & Susie is non-traditional because they have no male partner. Non-traditional family is influential, brand conscious and marketers not focusing on them. In the same, government also ignores them at the time of formulating policies.
