To address the research question in the first article that is the efficacy of problem solving in improving quality of life of 60 Iranian veterans after Iran war, and second article that is the relationships between cigarette smoking, post traumic stress disorder and exposure to assaultive violence among the national sample of the adolescents, the studies focuses on specific view points that include:
Exposure Therapy
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Iranian veterans after Iran war
Cigarette smoking
In order to answer the research question indicated, a mixed method approach will be the most appropriate for this study. The aim is to explore the views of both the articles; the variables that are included, post traumatic stress disorder and exposure therapy in Iranian veterans after Iran war in this first study. The variables of second study include cigarette smoking, PTSD and exposure to assaultive violence.
The strategies used in mixed method approaches include explanatory, exploratory, transformative, or concurrent strategies, the study employ an exploratory mixed method (Cooper and Schindler, 2006, 28-34). This perspective reflects the purpose of the study and the research questions, which are the driving forces behind all methodological choices.
The proposed study involves two research stages. A qualitative stage will feature face to face interviews, followed by a quantitative stage which will employ a questionnaire based on interview questions which will be asked from Iranian veterans. In this context, the first stage explores the effectiveness of exposure therapy in the Iranian veterans after Iran war in the first study and examination of the relationships between cigarette smoking, post traumic stress disorder and exposure to assaultive violence among the national sample of the adolescents. For this, interviewing from national sample of adolescents and Iranian veterans after Iran war offer a comprehensive picture on the being explored in both the articles. This information will form the basis for the next stage and used to resolve the research question. This mixed method research approach will be exploratory in nature, one conducted in two parts with priority given to the earlier stage.
Appropriatness of Research Design
The above mentioned research design is appropriate for the study as it is providing the results about the PTSD of Iranian veterans after Iran war and adsocelents; however, the results of both the results of both the studies would be more autentic, if the studies were based on the case study analysis.
Alternative Design
The alternative design that would be needed is the use of case stusy analysis as the case study analysis would help the reaserchers of both the study to have more accurate results that would be based on the secondary data. This secondary data would be based on the exploratory mixed method approach for both the reaserchers which includes important advantages that are within the context of both the studies that are, relationships between cigarette smoking, post traumic stress disorder and exposure to assaultive violence among the national sample of the adolescents and improvement in quality of life after exposure therapy, problem solving and combined therapy in chronic war-related ...
