Introduction

It is legal maxim; it means that that there should be speedy resolution of all the cases and if justice is not done on time, it will be considered that it is denied. Furthermore, this statement implies that if there would be delay in justice then the victims of injustice will suffer more. The judiciary should address their grievances as quickly as possible because if it is delayed due to any reason then they would further suffer a lot. Due to delay in justice both the defendants and the courtroom get affected. The courts and legislatures have taken effective steps in order to overcome the issue of delay. They have tried to speed up the cases and there has also been more appointment of judges.

Discussion

It is pertinent that the justice should be done on time, if justice is not done on time than it is useless. If any case is such that it requires quick resolution, then how one can delay it. For instance, if someone has been robbed and if he does not get speedy justice and his case is resolved after two or three months then what would happen to him. He will no more trust the judicial system. Justice is very important for the betterment of society. If justice delayed the criminals will increase and so as the number of crimes (David,Neubauer,Fradella, 2009). Therefore, there is great need to overcome the problem of delay in justice. If there would not be speedy resolution of the cases people would suffer a lot particularly those victims who are already suffering. Similarly, delay in justice is also harmful for our country and society. It is very correctly pointed out in the in this legal maxim that “Justice Delayed is Justice denied”. This phrase is also used for those governments and courts which do not or fail to resolve the large amount of cases for a number of years.

A defendant is a person who has been charged of any offence. The delay in justice is also very harmful for the defendant because he has to face lots of problems. Even if he has not committed a crime in reality he remains in the police custody.
