Introduction

In the modern business world, the four functions of management remain largely concentrated in the theoretical sphere. Increasing pressures drive complications within the practical application of these concepts. However, since these functions make up the very core of basic management concepts, which are applicable to almost management scenario, it is essential to review them in the context of an existing managerial situation at hand (Koontz & Weihrich, 2006). This paper aims to present a report on behalf of the CEO of ABC IT company to the management team citing the successful application of each of these functions in different scenarios.

Performance of team in Planning

The management team is lagging behind in the planning function. Planning encompasses developing a firm's aims and objectives for achieving its stated goals. If planning is not done appropriately, it could spell out as a disaster for the company's future. ABC IT Company has certain projects outlined against time frames for the achievement of its objectives. Sometimes, management skips planning entirely and starts off directly with the organizing function. However, the planning phase serves as the basic foundation upon which the entire process relies. Therefore, any mistake in this area could go a long way forward (Dale, 1969).

Performance of team in Organizing

Organizing is the second sequential function of management. ABC IT Company applies this function in the form of weekly meetings that are held between departmental managers to review progress. Organizing refers to bringing order to the internal mechanics of an organization. During the process we assign tasks to every team, which are further subdivided amongst team members. The work is timed against dates for completion and a proper schedule is set up.
