Article Analysis: “The Media Managers”

Introduction

This article analyzes the role of mass media institutions in shaping the society and providing cultural and social interventions in the world communities. The article is a successful contribution in assessing the role of mass media in giving a definite order to societal values and psychological attitudes of the world. The article is based on the following issue as a thesis statement, which will be analyzed in the section for analysis and discussion:

“Is mass media responsible for shaping the values, behaviors and attitudes of the American society?”

We will present a comprehensive discussion on the theme of the article and analyze it using critical evaluation strategy. We will firstly discuss the strengths of the article to shoe how the author has justified his position and said what he meant to say. We will support our reasoning using excerpts from the article to show our responses to the points that are included. We will highlight the most compelling points of the article, giving our reasons behind their strength as coherent argumentative layouts. Lastly we will discuss the weaknesses of the study and recommend how this could improve.

Discussion and Analysis

Mass media have become a successful medium for sharing ideas, communicating information and presenting individual opinions at a large scale. Majority of today's youth rely blindly on the mass media institutions for information and entertainment, they perceive to be “right” (Carter, Weaver, 2003). However, the role of the media is very critical, provided the crucial significance it has attained in our daily lives. This is where, according to the author, media managers become “mind managers”.
