Analysis of Mind Body Relation according to Philosophers
Introduction
Gottfried Leibniz is a well known philosopher of its time and still acclaimed by a lot of people at this moment in time. He was regarded amongst the top thinking minds of the seventeenth and eighteenth century. He is famous for his various philosophical works in which he coined famous phrases for the very first time amongst which is “the best if all possible world”. However, it was a claim made by him that this is the best possible worlds of all. Moreover, in this paper we'll be discussing the philosophy about the mind and body that he proposed.
On the other hand, Baruch Spinoza is another well known philosopher who is acclaimed for his work from the early reach work. He is a philosopher who was born in Amsterdam and existed during the seventeenth century; the similar time of Leibniz. However, his importance in the field of philosophy is immense, as the proposed philosophies are quite famous and well known from the period they came into existence.
The third philosopher we'll be looking upon is French who mainly spent his adult life along the Dutch. Rene Descartes who is also depicted as father of modern philosophy belongs from an era before Leibniz and Spinoza. Descartes were born in the sixteenth century; however, his work belongs from the early seventeenth century. Out of his work pieces on various subjects, the work on meditation is still being followed as basic courses for philosophical students.
Discussion
All three philosophers have done series of researches and are proclaimed philosophers from their time till present and will also be. They are the one who have done a lot of work for the field of philosophy and came up with different concepts and work that are still being followed. Their work is considered to be as the bench mark for today's philosophers. However, this paper will highlight on the work of all three philosophers. Emphasizes will be given on the philosophies presented by them related to mind-body connection; how they work. However, during the seventeenth century the connection between mind and body was talk about by saying substance dualism, which meant that, the body and the mind are two dissimilar types of matters.
Descartes Philosophy
Descartes are known for initiatives taken in the study of philosophy; he is given credit to lay down the foundation of various philosophies and proclaimed to be very beneficial for the coming philosophers. However, amongst all his works it is considered that his most successful work was creating a concept that body and the mind are distinct. This concept is known as the mind-body dualism. Therefore, it was concluded that the mind has a totally different nature from the nature of body.
