Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease) is a neuropathy relatively common but unknown cause. It affects both sexes, and its incidence increases with age from 40 years. The United States, it is also called "disease of Lou Gehrig" the name of a player of baseball renamed, died of the disease in 1941.
