Introduction

World is now a global village and to keep pace with the world, diversity triggered by inclusion and equality is required to be embraced. In the light of this view, disparate entities in the corporate world and other institutions as educational institutes are increasingly researching into the domain and looking for theories and methods so as to adopt the practices promoting workplace diversity. Diversity comes with its own inherent opportunities and challenges. The positives however outweigh the negatives and thus it is of utmost importance in this era of global economy. Diversity prompts the organization to attract and retain best talent belonging to any part of the world, regardless of a person's ethnic or racial origin. As a result of this, a firm can develop and maintain its competitive advantage and operate effectively and efficiently. Government or public sector which does not usually fall under the competitive model that is adopted by private sector, requires diversity for the competence that could enable them in the achievement of their stator missions more effectively and efficiently.

Evaluation of the Workplace Diversity Practices

In any organization, they are the managers and the leaders upon whose shoulders rest the responsibility of inculcating diversity. They are responsible for implementing the policies and making sure that the policies are effective. A global company as Procter and Gamble is the company that relies heavily on diversity. They claim their success as to be the direct result of their global and talented diverse workforce. They practice diversity so that they can effectively decipher consumer insights in the various regions they operate. For these consumer insights and ideas to be discerned precisely and appropriately, P&G is required to be having diverse workforce, belonging to the region and countries they operate in. The workforce may be native of different countries and thus they could decipher consumer ideas and insights there more easily and effectively thus contributing to their execution in a superior way. This is the testimony of the success and competitive advantage that is ensued by diversity in any organization.

This is the role of diversity and practice pertaining to Proctor and Gamble but the practices differ across the organizations. As mentioned above, diversity is responsible for conflicts and being a complex phenomenon, it impacts group functioning by great magnitude. However, to understand this more fully, there are different theories that have been formulated overtime. Differences between the employees is the core factor that plays a major role in the impacting the workplace relationships negatively. It is widely known and supported by researches that heterogeneous teams face greater disagreements and conflicts because of the lower cohesion. The difference in demographic variables and thus diversity is also attributable to increased employee turnover rate because of the increased role stress and lower job satisfaction.
