There are many researches over this debate pertained to whether the work is good, bad or does not matter at all for the adolescent. Many adolescent starts work informally at the earlier age even before twelve years of age. Adolescents who work during their high school years have many benefits, which outweigh the disadvantages involved in working. The jobs are of diversified nature ranging from their own neighborhoods, babysitting, cutting gross to working in a retail store, fast food restaurants and other different odd jobs. Employment becomes more time consuming during the later years of high schools with many adolescent working 20 or more hours of work per week. The prevalence of this time consuming employment for adolescent have ignited debates over whether they should work, for what kinds of jobs and for how many hours a week. Many of the parents like the idea that their children working due to reason that it will bring a sense of responsibility, positive attributes and good work ethics to them.
Is working advantageous for adolescents? The answer of the question depends on the fact that the working adolescents have the advantage of building broad spectrum of benefits such as the capacity to take responsibilities, time management skills, hold over shyness and to effectively manage their finances. Adolescents desire to work have variety of reason, most of the time it enables them to buy things of their desire including: spending on recreational activities, clothing, education, and savings for college and also helping their families. Doing job while attending schools can develop the adolescents in a healthy way, provided that the intensity of work load is moderate and stable in duration, which means that it does not harm the academic life of the adolescent and promotes a proper work life balance. This stable mode of work can further polish the skills of the adolescent, those skills are vital in future life; of these prime skills is the time management. These skills help the adolescent not only in their working environment but also in their school life, and are further complement by the money they receive against the work they do, it can help to pay their tuition fees as well as to bear their personal expenses.
