The Western View of Headache

Headache is considered the most common patient complaint and can occur with or be a sign of an underlying disorder. Almost all headaches -- up to 90% are either muscular contraction, vascular or a combination of the two. Only 10% are due to systemic, psychological disorders. Migraine headache, which is throbbing and vascular, is the most widely studied. It affects up to 10% of Americans and is more common in females. It can show a strong familial incidence.
