Introduction
Making Global economic development more sustainable has been labeled as a critical issue for 21st century as little progress has been made in this regard (Esty, Winston, 2009). Making economic development sustainable for a long period of time requires the complete revamp of replacing legacy materials, infrastructures, structure, processes and systems which require increasingly more sustainability. In order to meet the challenge of the main role is played by the engineering community sector which must be qualified enough to affect this change. It must alter and improve processes which include design, planning, operation and construction (Berns, Townend, Khayat, 2009, 19). Consent to status quo is no longer acceptable. The engineering community must focus on more changes and development of more innovative technologies to improve sustainability. The purpose of this study is to discuss the role of CSR in achieving sustainability through innovative methods.
Significance of the study
Sustainability for innovation is a process where consideration (social, financial and environmental) is integrated into the company system for research and development and commercialization (Camillus, 2008, 98). Innovation for sustainability applies to products and services and technologies as well business organizational model. Sustainability innovation is also used as the significant concept as it helps in improving the processes. Innovation also leads to a better financial reward, motivation for organizations and the organizations should adopt sustainability to be successful (Buysse, 2003, 453). Through sustainable innovation companies can make changes which contribute to goodness of the environment and society and provides profitability for those organizations who adopt the innovative changes.
