Abstract

Addiction of the drug is harmful, it effects the quality of life. Addiction of marijuana is found commonly among the youth. There is a need of efforts to make people aware of the harmful effects of drugs. This research paper exhibits that who is affected by drug addiction most and causes behind it. For prevention of drug addiction, a survey was carried out, a convenient random sampling tool was used with a sample of 100 respondents in order to obtain their views regarding the preventive measures for drug addiction. The results of study will lead to a conclusion about the main causes behind the drug addiction and the required solution.

“This paper explains the causes of marijuana drug addiction and its effects on human life”.

Introduction

Almost every segment of the world is effected by drug addiction. Marijuana is one of the famous and the most common drug available world wide. It is hazardous. The intake of marijuana is known to be common among young adults, the warranting efforts are required for increasing awareness about its unsafe effects and transforming attitudes. Drug is taken mostly by the students of high schools, there are many reasons behind the addiction of drug like the role of media, emotional disturbances, stress, failures and so on (Schroth, Helfer, Cunat & Stephen, p. 70-90).

There are some of the significant causes of addiction that play the stimulating role in drug addiction. A survey was conducted to find out the major causes of drug addiction according to individuals. The below table shows the result of the survey.

A large number of individuals from sample size of 100 claim that media is playing an important role in inculcating desired behavior towards the addiction of drugs like marijuana.

Along with negative role of media according to 75% of individuals from sample size claim that the emotional disturbance at very crucial age like break-ups in relationships, failures in career and other similar social problems are considered to be the main cause of addiction of drugs.

40 % of individuals do not consider the lack of drug awareness programs on the higher secondary level as the main cause.

80% of individual responded positively that the study programs at the higher school level are so stressful that make them use drugs.

A large number of groups worldwide have obtained the data on the prevalence of intake of the drug. According to number of researchers the large number of drug users are students. These individuals are college students, young adults, even the students of 8th and 10th grade also take drugs.
