Space Shuttle Columbia's last mission was designated STS-107, and took place between January 16, 2003 and February 1, 2003. The accident was not perceived by the crew or during the mission. Mission control, apparently, was aware of detachment from others, but dismissed the scope of the event (Castells, 2009).
