Introduction
The advent of technology not only changed the individual lives but, organizational practices as well. The implementation of information technology became paramount for business success. However, it brought several challenges along as well. Network security is the system to safeguard against the risk of data intrusion. It helped avoiding the unauthorized access of Internet across organization. It is a prominent feature of the network security; accountability, integrity, and above all the protection against the internal and external threats for instance, email security, network security, Trojans and wireless network security attacks.
The organizations have to ensure that the information sharing should be shared at the right place by right people. Internet does provide utilities and useful applications for information sharing, but the sensitive data and systems of the organization are always at risk. The risk can become significant through IP spoofing, cache poisoning, password attacks or data theft. To fight back these risks, organizations implement the Internet usage policies across the business procedures. They monitor the employee's online activities and Internet use. It is significant for some organizations to note their information sharing practices. All these actions question the trust of organizations on their employees. (Nancy, 256).
Internet security
Internet security refers to the rules and measures used against the attacks over the Internet. Internet represents an insecure channel for exchanging information; therefore, the risk of intrusion is high. Various methods are used to protect the data including encryption, it helps secure the information one shares on the Internet (Opp, 335).
In the workplace, Internet security covers all employees who access the Internet. The businesses have their own terms and conditions based on company's infrastructure. Several people may be exempted from the policies depending on their roles in the hierarchy. In the business environment, Internet security is considered crucial, and every document including email is treated professionally. The Employees are set accountable for their online activities because all the data developed on the workstation is considered professional. The businesses are facing this Internet security dilemma today, because all these restrictions may create privacy intrusion of the employees (Opp, 334).
Each business has their own set of policies which ensure data security. This raises controversy in the extent to which the management can monitor their employees without creating a hostile work environment.
