Trinh Cong Son: The Phenomenon Artist in Vietnam
Introduction
Trinh Cong Son (February 28 in 1939 - April 1 in 2001) is regarded as one of the composer's greatest music Tan Vietnam with many popular works. Currently, no statistics on the number of his works to the (estimated number not less than 600 songs), but most are love songs. Many of his songs are anti-war message during the Vietnam War and thus were subject to the government banned the Socialist Republic of Vietnam later. Trinh Cong Son's music is more present singers, but his greatest success as Khanh Ly. In addition, he is also known as a poet, an amateur painter. Love is one of the greatest themes that are commonly found in the writings of Trinh Cong Son. The majority of love songs composed by Trinh Cong Son are based on the theme of love and compassion. Ability to write love songs by Trinh Cong Son did not know oblivion over the years. His love music and art was outstanding; nonetheless, he was mostly engulfed by the emotion of sadness.
Biography
Trinh Cong Son was born in Lac Giao plateau (social-Lac Giao Thong Nhat ward now, Ban Me Thuot), province of Dak Lak but he had little time to live in the village of Minh Huong. Trinh Cong Son grew up in Hue. At school age he attended the Lycee Francais school in Hue and Provindence, following in Saigon to study philosophy in Western Lycee with Jean Jacques Rousseau Saigon and graduated baccalaureate there. The publication of his first song was witnessed with the publisher of An Phu in the year 1959. Since then his name was well known. In later years, his music was popular as many artists performed a tribute to his songs after his death. Moreover, he faced tremendous fame and also criticism during his life (Ehrhart, 94). Many words in his songs represented anti-war lyrics; moreover, the Republic of Vietnam government has banned the circulation of his few works. One can say that his fate has led him to make music.
