Tourism and Hospitality
Tourism sectors play a significant role in the growth of Nepal. The number of tourist play a vital role in foreign earning and any slight change in tourist number will affect the economy negatively. A report by Veit burger suggested that Rs. 169 was spent by an average tourist in 1974 and it reached to $31 in 2005. The economic impact of tourism is remarkable. A slight change in tourist figures can affect the GDP. It is a mean of economic development. It creates employment opportunities, forces the government to upgrade the infrastructure, increase productivity and improve the level of balance of payments because foreign earnings are improved. Tourism increases job opportunities for unemployed people (Bickart, pp. 31-40). To increase tourism the government also take measures to improve the infrastructure of the economy. It generates more income to the citizens. The demand for land, water and food increases due to tourism and that impact is reflected from increased inflation. To increase tourism the government also encourages construction of new hotels to accommodate more and more tourist. Hence we can conclude that economic benefits of tourism are very important for any economy especially in the case of Nepal where one of the biggest contributors to GDP is tourism sector (Price, Pp.196).
