Abstract

In this study we try to explore the concept of the organic food in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on development and usage of the organic food and its relation with sustainability in the ecology of the world. Since the growth of organic food is now altering the DNA structure of authentic food taste and structure therefore, this might pose a risk to the development of original food tastes. Further to this the research paper will also analyses the legal definition with respect to the consumer safety and health concerns regarding the consumption of organic food. The secondary analysis of the research will focus on environmental impact and yield of the organic food. The research also analyzes many aspects of Nutrient value and tastes of the organic food and tries to gauge its effect on consumer pricing and safety of both humans and environment. Finally the research describes various factors which are responsible for evolution of organic foods as the industrial products and tries to describe the overall effect of organic industry on food consumption patterns.

Definition

The term organic food was delivered in 1939, by Lord Northbourne in his book where he referred farming as the living organism. He described the holistic and ecologically balanced definition of farming in contrast to chemical farming. He stated that chemical farming carries invalid chemicals for human use that may affect the foods within the soils. Therefore, a different class of 'organic' food should be developed, which have the complete nutrients as the original food items and provide people with proper diet.

History

The growth of organic food has been vibrant since last 10 years. The growing health concerns of the people with the vast information through online and media services have generated the sense of impact on the people. The consumption of organic food in USA had been approximately 6% which has rose up to 28%.

The word organic means full of nutrients, and in relation with foods and edibles it is stated as cleaner and safer, even, are those means by "organic" those foods produced without causing pollution or harming the least possible air, land and water. Organic foods are basically those foods, which are involved fertilizers, herbicides or chemical pesticides, in the soil where they are grown. These include all types of foods like fruits vegetables, meats, dairy products and oils. In fact the positive characteristics are attributed to organic products are difficult to establish until there is a general regulation.

For example for the milk, is considered organic, in theory the cow must be fed 100% with grains that have not been treated or genetically fertilized soils and it should not be treated with antibiotics or hormones of any other, related or non-related animals.
