Introduction

In the United States, abortion is considered to be the most prevailing medical procedure. The term abortion is defined as the termination of the pregnancy which is done by removing the embryo from the uterus before the viability. It is important to note that there are over 40% mothers that end pregnancy before maturity, however, this process of terminating the pregnancy is a controversial process. There are different groups of thoughts providing negative opinions about abortions and they have also started the anti-abortion movement against rising abortions. The main supporters of these anti-abortion movements are the religious believers. These anti-abortion movement chants the slogan of pro-life which means that they value human lives.

Discussion

The debate over the legalization of abortion is prevailing in the society, since the several hundred years. Many scholars and religious bodies are against the act of abortion; however, there are several other bodies claiming that abortion is not an inhumane act. In the middle Ages, the church has concluded that abortion at any time of pregnancy is a sin. According to the church, the main reason of going for the process of abortion is that the couples hide their sins of fornication (Condic, 2003). As a result of this, the church has imposed a small amount of fine in case any couple asks for abortion before the ensoulment. However, abortion after the full formation of fetus has been considered to be a capital crime, and punishments have been allocated for them. Before, the discovery of microscope, it was a difficult procedure to know that the sperm has actually entered an egg for the purpose of creating a human life. This is the main reason why the anti-abortion groups consider the act of abortion as a murder. According to the anti-abortion group abortion is considered to be a legal crime and punishments should be given to individual who are found guilty of committing it. However, according to a much lenient anti-abortion group, abortion should be allowed to mothers in the cases when their lives are in any kind of danger and they cannot carry their pregnancies. They also say that abortion should be allowed to those women who become pregnant as result of rape or incest (Michelman, 2003). Certain people also are of the view that abortion can be favorable for poor people and it is their right who cannot afford to up bring their child. Therefore, legal protections and such environments should be given to poor people so that they can make decisions of going for abortions. But, the pro-life supporters are of the view that abortion in any way is an illegal and this is the reason it should be considered as an unlawful act.
