Introduction

The term abortion is defined as the termination of the pregnancy. Abortion is done by removing the embryo from the uterus before the viability. In United States, abortion is considered to be the most prevailing medical procedure. According to the estimations, there are more than 40% of the mothers that end the pregnancy before maturity. However, this process of terminating the pregnancy is the controversial process. It is considered to be a controversial issue in the today's generation. There are different groups of thoughts providing the negative opinion about the abortions. Among such anti-abortion groups, one group of medical professionals have started the anti-abortion movement. The main supporters of these anti-abortion movements were the religious believers. Religious groups were the main groups involved in the anti-abortion movements. The anti-abortion movement has chosen the name pro-life which depicts that they have a value for lives of human beings. The religious groups have the belief that the pregnancy is the God's decision which he provides as a result of the conception. According to Condic (2003), early Christians believed that ensoulment occurred at animation, when the fetus was fully formed, forty-eight days after conception; prior to this moment “the prevailing view of the fetus was [that it is] an 'appendage' of the mother” (Wayne, 2001).

In contrast to these anti-abortion groups, there are different groups in favor of the abortion. According to these groups, abortion is the right of women and they can avail it in need. Thus, the main purpose of this paper is to make an analysis in favor of abortion (Wayne, 2001).

Discussion

The debate over the legalization of abortion is prevailing in the society since the last hundred years. Many scholars and religious bodies are against the act of abortion; however, there are many bodies claiming that abortion is not an inhumane act. In the middle Ages, the church has concluded that the abortion at any time of pregnancy is the sin. According to the church, the main reason of going for the process of abortion is that the couples hide their sin of fornication (Condic, 2003). As a result of this, the church has imposed a small amount of fine in case any couple asks for the abortion before the ensoulment. However, the abortion after the full formation of fetus has been considered to be a capital crime, and punishments have been allocated for them. Before, the discovery of microscope, it was a difficult procedure to know that the sperm has actually entered an egg for the purpose of creating a human life. At the moment, the sperm enters the egg, which is called conception; the egg becomes fertilized and is considered to be of the human form (Shenkman, 1992). This is the main reason why the anti-abortion groups consider the act of abortion as a murder.
