Introduction

The main purpose of this paper is to analyze three case studies and discuss them on the basis of the psychological perspectives. Given below are the three case studies and there description and analysis.

Case 1

This case is about the mother of a 17 year old Africa American son. The main problem in this case is that the different doctors have diagnosed her son differently. As per one doctor her son is a Bipolar II Disorder victim. On the other hand, different other doctors have diagnosed her with Cyclothymia, Dysthymic and Manic Depressive illness. Few of the doctors have also claimed that her son is suffering from major depression. The main aim of this case is to explain the difference between these two terms.

Bipolar II Disorder Victim

Bipolar II disorder victim is one which is mainly categorized as a mental illness. Bipolar II is a mental disorder in which the people suffer from the episodes of depression (AlegrÃ, 2010).

Cyclothymia

Cyclothymia is the disorder which is mainly classified as the mood disorder. It is the disorder which raises the emotional disturbance and ups and downs but they are not considered to be extreme cases. In terms of extremism, cyclothymia is a less extreme disorder as compared to the bipolar disorder (Trull, 2010).

Dysthymia

Dysthymia is the disorder which is actually mild in nature. It is also termed as the form of depression (Petrakis, 2011). The symptoms of dysthymia disorder mainly last for not less than two years. Dysthymia is the disorder that affects the normal daily life of the individual. It is the disorder in which the individual feels hopeless and less productive.

Manic Depression

Manic depression is the disorder which is also termed as the bipolar disorder. This disorder is mainly classified into the mood disorder and affective disorder (Lemke, 2010).

Case 2

This is the case that requires the assistance for the suicide potential who is a 19 year old Caucasian female. The female was brought into the emergency room because she attempted suicide. She was under the alcohol influence and was claiming that her boy friend is not sincere with her. The female is a university student and was out from her home for the first time.
