Introduction

A Streetcar Named Desire is set during the era of postwar prosperity, in the old French Quarter of New Orleans, receiving southern city of immigrants. That there was a culture shock going back at least to that described in the late nineteenth. A Streetcar Named Desire-Tennessee Williams shows this conflict in the midst of a culture shock and confrontations between the sexes. The drama takes place in U.S. culture that placed in a state of "psychological misery of the masses", where "social ligation is mainly established by mutual identification among participants, the pair that the individuals conducting not reach significance than their share in the formation of mass. This paper focuses on discussing the various aspects of the story in which main emphasis will be on the theme of the play based on fantasy vs. reality.

I would want to start saying that it is obviously the story of Blanche DuBois, a Southern belle a little faded but still pretty enough that arrives at her sister after the family home was lost, then she got confronted with his brother Stanley, that was a sort of big lout, and sexual tension, the game of attraction and rejection between the two, the smoke screen and built by White fantasies - where, literature teacher and adorning themselves with furs, she looks like a beautiful lady with educated ways - crumbling, giving way to reality - after her husband committed suicide when she learned of his homosexuality, it connects lover to lover and even had a relationship with one of his students who was 17. This film is all about clash between good and the bad and the simultaneous deletion of illusion in favor of reality, which are the two main themes of this play ...
