A LEADERS DILEMMA

A Leaders Dilemma

A Leaders Dilemma

Introduction

People usually assume that a manager, by default, is a leader. In reality a leader and a manager can be distinguished clearly. The leader has followers and the manager is a follower. (Bennis, W, 1994) The dilemma of the CEO is that he is commonly struck with a lot of organizational problems. It is quite obvious and understood that with great powers comes greater responsibilities, so is the case with CEO of any organization his basic task is to make a healthy and competitive environment where all the employees can associate themselves and work with determination.

Discussion

The manager asks how and when, the leader asks what and why.

The leaders did not just happen. Should be developed: educated so that they acquire the qualities of leadership.

Present Condition

Currently there is a conventional “command and control” method placed in almost every organization. The management is pleased with the overall setup and looking to improve it on continuous basis.

Proposed Changes by the CEO

The CEO plans to establish a more open team based system of managing things in the organization. The system would allow for a more open environment and employee empowerment. In scenarios like the one described above, the person bringing the change is the pivot on which the whole success or failure of the enterprise depends. The differences that distinguish a leader and a manager come into play.
