The virus appeared for the first time in the US in 1999 and spreads when a mosquitoes bites and the infected person, and then bite a healthy person. The west Nile virus has spread dramatically in the US every since. The virus belongs to the flavivirus group, and reaches its peak in the early fall, and decreases as the weather becomes cooler, resulting in fewer cases.
