Visitor Attraction Management
Introduction
Tourism is the act of travel for pleasure or for a certain purpose, to a place other than where the visitors usually live, which may involve the visit to a natural place to man- made site.
Initially only linked to leisure and health, tourism includes now all economic activities which are being used by tourist while travelling (transport, hotels, restaurants, bars, etc.). It may be, for example, a business trip (this is called "business tourism") or a pilgrimage religious ("cultural tourism") or a trip in order to have sex with locals (" sex tourism "). If a visit is meant for treatment of some disease then it is called medical tourism. The tourist is generally concerned with culture or landscapes he visits. This practice has long been the practice of the wealthy people who could afford to travel to see the remarkable buildings, works of art or taste other cuisines.
Tourism has spawned an industry where the middle classes in Western countries (Europe and North America) are able to start travelling. This is due to the general improvement in living standards that allowed people to spend more on leisure activities, including tourism. This assignment is aimed at discussing motivational theories of tourism, market segmentation o tourists and purpose and scope of visiting attractions and prospects for sustainable tourism.

(Richards, 2001, p. 4) The crucial role of visitor attractions can be no questioning in the success and development of tourism destinations. Visitor attractions attract visitors to an area at their most basic level, while on much broader levels; they may also function as means of change, social facilitators and chief generators of income. It is stated by Boniface and Cooper (2001, p. 30) that 'attractions are the raison d'être for tourism; they generate the visit, give rise to excursion circuits and create an industry of their ...
