Introduction

The IT management system of Alcan is not a simple IT system. There are more than thousand IT systems running in the Alcan, each of them running independently out which about 400 is related to finance. Mr. Robert Ouellette designed and implemented an IT management system for Alcan in 2006 which is very effective as compared to the previous condition of IT management system of Alcan because it ensures integrity within the organization (Dube, 2009). Instead of the effectiveness of this IT management system, there are also some limitations of that IT management system which include high cost of maintenance and no concept of managing any change in the organization. In this assignment we are going to design and propose an IT management system that is more effective from Robert IT management system as it eliminates the limitations of this IT management system. This assignment also describes the advantages and limitations of Robert IT management system which is used in designing new IT governance system for Alcan.

Advantages and Disadvantages of the Alcon application management proposed by Robert Ouellette

According to Robert Ouellette there are many benefits of new Alcon Application Management as compared to one or two disadvantages. These are discussed below:

Advantages

Project completion

As this application management provides a way or access to the senior management to continuously monitor the current situation of work at different sites and projects; therefore, it is easy and possible for the management to ensure the completion of project on time without any delay.

Integrity

The integrity is very important factor in large organizations whose work is not limited inside a country or state. If integrity is absent in such organizations, and then organizations have to pay a considerable cost in the form of project failure (Love, 2007). According to Robert, the current application management ensures integrity in the Alcon, which is most important factor that should have to be considered when someone plans future of Alcon.

Effective Monitoring

The integrity provided by application management is very important when we going to discuss the monitoring of the systems (Van, 1994). If integrity is not present in the large firms like Alcon, then how the senior management can monitor the performance of department or individual persons effectively. In this situation, they have to rely on their junior managers, who may provide wrong information, which becomes very costly for company in the end. That's why, according to Robert, the current application management provides monitoring of compete resources either it is finance or human resource.

Disadvantages

There are two disadvantages that are clearly visible in IT management plan designed and implemented by Robert in the year 2006. These disadvantages include high cost of maintenance and less acceptance level of any change in organization.
