ABSTRACT

The quality of the training of the employees provided in an organisation determines the image of the organisation and its individuals in the industry. In the open labour market, the potential employers judge the record which an employee has been keeping up regarding his training, development and the performance in his organisation. For such a prospective employee, the development and career progression are the basic factors which provide him incentives in the industry. This dissertation based on it, discusses the effectiveness of the training and development in a holistic sense.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Background

Today's business environment is faced with many changes and the organisations need to be resilient in order to cope up with the upcoming changes, and keep it aligned with the advancements. The increasing innovation, technology and modernization has made it essential for organisations to design training and development programs and keep their employees up dated on a continuous basis. In the current business climate, the industries are faced with acute shortage of staff and required skills, and the stiff external and internal competition for the quality employees is faced by the companies. All those employers who work with the serious intention of investing in the field of training and development will ultimately harvest the benefits of an improved working environment. In such an environment, there exists enhanced productivity and higher levels of the staff retention.

The research study at hand will study and present the idea of how the programs of training and development help improve the effectiveness and efficiency of an organisation. It will further facilitate the readers to have a clear idea regarding the development, execution and evaluation of the training program with respect to its outputs for the organisational goal achievement. A proper research, beneficial to the study, will be carried out and illustrated in a legible manner.

Many organisations have made the process of training and development a part of their policy-making, goal setting, and proper planning and assessment. The formation of a training design extends and develops the skills for better performance of labour also involves the transmission of new knowledge, skills, behaviours and attitudes to play specific roles in the job positions (Wexley, Pp. 277). The rapid changes and developments produced by the Information Technology and the introduction of other machines and equipments with the modern knowledge and procedures in businesses has, in one form or another, led to a strong restructuring in the departments and working methods.
